Getting Around The Local Area By Bike

Depending on how confident and fit a cyclist you are, there are a range of destinations that can be accessed by bike from Aversley Grange.

All of the amenities within Sawtry can be accessed within around a 10-minute cycle ride. This includes the schools, convenience stores and facilities like the GP surgery and play parks. For confident cyclists, Huntingdon can be reached in around 50 minutes by bike.

For more leisurely rides, you’re ideally located to take advantage of the stunning local scenery that Cambridgeshire has to offer and there are plenty of routes to choose from. The National Byway runs just to the south of Sawtry, and is a country wide network of sign-posted leisure cycling routes. The Byway routes journey through the natural environment, providing discreet sign-posted directions along some of the most attractive and peaceful rural lanes available in the country. Travel south on Toll Bar Way, past the service station, and you’ll join the National Byway on St Judiths Lane. It runs right past Archer’s Wood and Coppingford Wood.

Following the National Byway route west, you’ll meet with route 12 of the National Cycle Network. Which locally provides a route between Huntingdon and Peterborough. The National Cycle Network is run by the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, and while route 12 is mostly on road in the local area, the roads are all quiet and should provide good visibility for cyclists.

Following the Byway to the east, you’ll pass Monks Wood National Nature Reserve, an ancient woodland. Eventually reaching Ramsey, passing through Upwood and Bury on the way.
